My Sister’s Egg Masala Recipe



Last week me and my sister were cooking together in the kitchen, which is quite unusual because we never cook together often. I made tandoori potatoes and my sister made this curry and some fried rice..I helped her a little in making fried rice. And once we sat together and tasted this it was so good..We had a yummy lunch..I wanted to share her recipe with you all..So here you go..

My Sister’s Egg Masala Recipe

Ingrediants:

Onion – 1 large chopped
Tomatoes- 2 chopped
Chilli powder – 1 tsp
Turmeric powder / Manjal podi – 1 tsp
Garam masala powder – 1 tsp
Salt to taste
Oil- 2 tblspn

For Frying Eggs:
Oil- 1 tblspn
Eggs – 3 boiled and peeled
Salt to taste
Chilli powder – 1 tsp

Method:

Start by frying the eggs. Mix salt and chilli powder to the cooked eggs and mixwell. Heat a tblspn of oil and fry the eggs in that oil till light golden. Remove to a plate.

Now grind onion and tomatoes together and set aside.

Heat oil in a kadai. Add in ground onion and tomato paste and mix well.Cook this until oil separates from this.

Now add in all the spice powder and mix well. Cook this for a min.

Add enough water and mix well. Add in the fried eggs and cook for 5 mins till the mixture becomes dry.

Garnish with coriander leaves and serve.

Dalia / Tomato & Wheat Rawa Upma / Cracked Wheat Upma – Healthy Recipes / Quick Recipe / Lunch Box Ideas


This is a great recipe if you are in diet..This keeps you full and gives you a great source of fiber..You could add vegetables if you like..I just made it like a tomato rice by adding only tomatoes..I hope you like it and let me know what you think..

Tomato & Wheat Rawa Upma Recipe

Ingrediants:

Wheat Rawa – 1 cup
Onion – 1 chopped
Tomatoes – 3 chopped
Chilli powder – 1 tsp
Oil- 1 tsp
Salt to taste

Method:

Heat oil in a kadai. Add onions and tomatoes and sauté for 5 mins.

Add salt and chilli powder and mix well. Add wheat rawa and saute for a min.

Add 2 cups of water and bring it to a boil.

Cover and simmer for 15 mins.

Fluff with a fork and serve.

Perimma's Kootanchoru / Rice and Dal cooked with Vegetables and Drumstick leaves -Traditional Rice Recipes / Perimma's Recipe


This is a traditional recipe from my perimma..She made this last month and brought this to my home. I tasted it and totally loved it..I asked her the recipe, she gave me without any hesitation..Hope you like it and let me know what you think..


Perimma's Kootanchoru  Recipe

Ingrediants:

Rice - 2 cup
Toor Dal / Tuvaram Paruppu - 1 cup
Murungai keerai / Drumstick Leaves  - 2 cup
Country Vegetables - 2 cups ( I used carrot, potato, cucumber, raw banana, pumpkin)
Sambar Onion / Shallots- 5
Tomato -1  chopped
Turmeric Powder /Majal podi - 1 tsp
Salt to taste
Tamarind paste - 2 tblspn
Ghee - 1 tblspn

To Grind:
Coconut - 1 cup
Cumin Seeds / Jeerakam - 1 tsp
Green Chilli - 4

To temper:
Oil- 2 tblspn
Channa dal - 1 tblspn
Urad dal - 1 tblspn
Curry leaves - 1 spring
Dry Red Chilli - 2
Asafoetida / Hing / kaya Podi - 1/4 tsp

Method:

Grind the ingrediants given in the list. Set this aside.

Take onions, tomatoes and all the vegetables in a pressure cooker. Add salt and turmeric powder and cook for 2 whistles. Let the pressure go all by itself and set aside.

Wash rice and dal together and soak for 30 mins. Take it in pressure cooker add 7 cups of water and cook for 4 whistles.. Let the pressure go all by itself and set aside.

Open the rice and add the vegetables mixture to this and mix well. Add the ground coconut paste and mix well.

Add tamarind and mix well. Adjust salt and mix well. Simmer it for 10 min. Add water accordingly..The mixture should be slightly  runny, because it get thick as it stays..

Now take ghee in a pan and saute the murungai keerai leaves for 3 mins. Add this to the rice mixture and simmer again for 5 mins.

Now temper the ingrediants given in the list and pour it over the rice..Mix well.

Serve hot..

Amma’s Instant Tomato Chutney / Thakali Chutney – Quick Sidedish for Idli & Dosa


Amma makes this chutney for us often..I mean 5 times in a week..Ha Ha..Yes..specially during the busy morning. Because this chutney takes less than 10 mins to make..This taste great with idli or crispy dosa..Hope you like it and let me know what you think..



Amma’s Instant Tomato Chutney Recipe

Ingrediants:

Tomato- 4 large finely chopped
Urad Dal / Ulundu – 1 tsp
Mustard Seeds / Kaduku – 1 tsp
Chilli Powder – 1 tsp
Salt to taste
Sugar – 1 tsp
Oil- 1 tblspn

Method:

Heat oil in a kadai. Add mustard and urad dal. Let it pop.

Add tomatoes and stir well. Add in salt and sugar and mix well.

Stir constantly till the tomatoes are completely broken.

Add chilli powder and mix well. Pour in some water and bring it to a boil.

Let it cook for 3 mins.

Serve hot with idli or dosa.

Beans Briyani / Beans Pulav – Lunch Box Recipes / Simple Rice Recipes


If you need any quick Rice Dish to take for office or pack in kids lunch box  then this is the answer..It is a simple yet very flavourful pulav..I served it with Cucumber and Soya Chunks Korma..Will Post that soon in YUMMY TUMMY..Hope you like this and tell me how it cameout..



Beans Briyani Recipe

Ingrediants:

Basmati Rice – 2 cups (soaked)
Onion -1 sliced
Tomato – 1 chopped
Beans – 2 cups cut into inch pieces
Chilli powder -1 tsp
Coriander Powder / Malli podi -1 tblspn
Turmeric Powder / Manjal Podi -1 tsp
Garam Masala Powder -2 tsp
Fennel Seeds / Saunf / Sombu -1 tsp
Cinnamon / Pattai -1 small stick
Cumin Seeds / Jeerakam -1 tsp
Oil-1 tblspn
Ghee – 1 tblspn
Coriander Leaves / Cilantro –for garnishing
Salt to taste
Water – 4 cups

Method:

Wash and soak rice for 30 mins. Drain it and set aside.

Heat oil and ghee in a pressure cooker. Add cumin, fennel, cinnamon and fry for 30 sec.

Add in onions and mix well.Add in tomatoes and mix well..Cook for 5 mins.

Add in turmeric, chilli, coriander and garam masala powder and mix well.

Add in beans and mix well. Cook for 5 mins so that the raw smell goes from that.

Now add in drained rice and mix well.. Pour  4 cups of water and season with salt.

Bring this to boil and cover and cook for 2 whistles and simmer for 10 mins.

Let the pressure go by itself.. Open it up and drizzle 1 tsp of ghee over top and garnish with coriander leaves.

Serve hot with raita..

Potato Curry with Roasted Gram Dal Paste – Side Dish for Roti, Puri & Chappati


This is a yummy potato curry which I made last week to go along side with roti. My sister totally loved it and told me to post step by step recipe in my other blog YUMMY TUMMY. It was so good as a sidedish..So hope you like it and let me know what you think..


Potato Curry Recipe

Ingrediants:

Onion – 1 chopped
Potato – 3 large chopped
Tomato – 2 chopped
Chilli powder – 1 tsp
Coriander Powder – 1 tblspn
Mustard Seeds / kaduku -1 tsp
Salt to taste
Oil- 2 tblspn
Coriander Leaves / Cilantro for garnishing

To Grind:
Coconut – 1 cup
Roasted Gram Dal / Pori Kadalai – 2 tblspn
Fennel Seeds / Sombu / Saunf – 1 tsp

Method:

Grind ingrediants given in the list to a smooth paste by adding some water. Set this aside.

Heat oil in a kadai. Add Mustard and let it splatter ,now add in onions and mix well. Cook for 3 mins.

Add in tomatoes and cook untill it gets mushy.

Add in chilli & coriander powder and mix well.

Ad in potatoes and mix well..Add in a splash of water and cook for 10 mins untill the potatoes are cooked.

Now add in ground paste and mix well.. Pour in enough water and simmer for 10 mins..

Garnish with coriander leaves and serve with roti..
